What's It All About

There will be no posting of profit and loss screen shots on this blog, just general day to day truths about my punting life and how good or bad I am (mostly bad)

No Happy Days For The Seasiders

I have taken a strong opinion that Blackpool look to be on a hiding to nothing coming into their 1st season in the Premiership, they can be backed @ 2.00 to finis bottom but I rather like the look of them to be bottom at Xmas which is available at 2.10 and wouldn't tie your dosh up for too long.
They have to face trips to Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea as well as taking on Man Utd at home all before Santa arrives and have only 7 home games out of the 17 to be played, this looks a good bet to me.

Ferrari F1 Farce!

To say that I am annoyed about the outcome of yesterdays race in Hockenheim would be a huge understatement.

All of my bets went belly up which of course hurt, but the blatant cheating by Ferrari and the subsequent pathetic $100,000 fine imposed by the FIA is what really got me worked up.

It has to be one of the most blatant cases of cheating seen in recent years, witnessed by millions of people.

The post race attempt at a cover up by Ferrari were laughable and in my opinion were an insults to people's intelligence.

If this had been McLaren you can be sure that the outcome woul dhave been completely different, it appears that Ferrari have a completely different set of rules than any of th eother teams.

I could go on and on but will call it quits for now.

I will sign off for today with what Rob Smedley should have said to Felipe Massa:

" Fernando is a spoilt miserable Spanish git and has thrown his toys out of the pram, can you please let him past other wise he won't play with us again"

German Grand Prix Final Bets

Well he royally messed it up 2 weeks ago at Silverstone but I am not expecting a repeat performance here and I think he will win in front of his home crowd.

He put in an Ace lap in qualifying to out gun the miserable Spaniard in the Ferrari (happy days) and now sits on Pole.

His team mate Mark Webber is back in 4th just behind the other Ferrari of Felipe Massa, had Webber been behind him in 2nd place I would be taking Vettel on but I think he will be too quick away from the Ferraris and will lead from lights out to chequered flag

I have taken him at 2.04 on Betfair which is in my opinion about the right price, I wouldn’t want to b backing him at odds on as he has proven to be less than reliable at holding onto leads.

Button has out qualified his team mate Hamilton and that should make for an interesting race for the 2 McLarens sitting 5 and 6 on the grid, my Button to podium bet is still alive but my Sutil points finish bet is looking a bit shaky as he has taken a 5 place grid drop for a gear box change, he will need to drive out of his skin to hit the points from 19th on the grid.

The other good bit of news is that Michael Schumacher is only 11th on the grid so hopefully he won’t be in the points.

The other bet that I have taken is Massa to post the fastest lap @ 20

All in all it should be a good race with Vettel bringing home the bacon and Button on the podium.

Hockenheim In The Rain

Well I have supported my opinion of Button to podium and taken a price of 3 (now out to 3.3)

Mark Iverson asked yesterday what my thought process was regarding this bet and it was as follows:

I have looked at his season so far and he has managed to win 2 races and podium 3 times including 3 of his last 4 races, he was very unlucky not to do it 2 weeks ago @ Silverstone. So in 50% of his races he has hit the podium therefore anything on offer above even money looks to be value to me, the problem is if you wait until after Qualifying the value goes (if he does well)

So it is belting it down with rain in Germany and I don't think we are going to gain a lot of information about any of the teams potential in P1

I have just had a quick scan of the Points Finish market and there is one that jumps out at me, the majority of the "top 10" drivers always hover around the 1.15 - 1.3 mark so I am a little surprised to see Adrian Sutil @ 1.6, he has finished in the points in 7 of the 10 races so far including the last 6, so I have taken some of that.

Well I am watching the practice sessions on line and will be back tomorrow with more possible bets if they present themselves.

Focus

This is what I have now decided to do and not before time.
I have been all over the place in the last few weeks with no real focus on what I should and should not be betting on, well this has now stopped.
With the new domestic football season approaching I will be concentrating my efforts on football and when the winter horse racing starts I will be getting my Back To Lay bets going again on the All Weather (more of this nearer the time but it was very successful last winter).

My football betting tanks are now in place and raring to go.

My journey into the world of financial spread betting was short lived, I have pulled the pin as I was finding it very hard to focus and believe that to be successful at it you need to be 100% committed and I am afraid I just cannot be that committed to it as it doesn't give me the enjoyment that I get from sports betting.

It is the German Grand Prix this weekend and I am determined to get on top of it and come away with a profit, the thinking head is now on and I have started to look at the early markets.

Jenson Button to Podium is available @ 3 on Betfair and this looks a decent shout, if only he could start to produce a good qualifying session, it looks as though he fully recognises this as he talks about it HERE I will continue to look at this event and hopefully come up with some decent bets by the weekend.

Loosing Day

Well not much going on at the moment but I still managed to loose a bit of money on the 2 Barney Curly runners yesterday, he owes me nothing so I am not too upset and if I had been sensible I would have traded out of the Maiden @ Yarmouth as it shortened up no end just before the off, I had it backed @ 19 + and it came into 8 but I misread this as a signal that the money was down and Barney would be counting the dollar, it wasn't to be.

I have almost concluded that Spread Betting on financial markets is extremely hard and very frustrating, it may not be for me after all.

My Big Brother 6th eviction bets looked to be over before they even started when Caoimhe walked leaving me with a loss but the Big Brother Gods were watching over me and we now have 3 of them up including my saver bet of Keeley and I think she is the one that is going, market is still suspended on Betfair which is very frustrating as the whole world knows who is up apart from the Betfair traders who wait until the house mates have been told, well they are not likely to be having any effect on the market are they.. DURR

So not too long to wait now until the new football season kicks off, it can't come quick enough for me, it feals like it was months ago when we were watching the final games of the season even though it wasn't that long about 10 weeks!

Monday 19 July 2010

Very Quiet

There is not a lot happening in the punting world at the moment (well my punting world anyway)

I have had a dabble in the Big Brother Next Eviction market taking a punt on either Caoimhe or Keeley to go.
I am already involved in the outright market with a nice bet on Andrew @ 20's and an interest in Josie, currently nice and green all over.

Slightly surprised that Martin Jol looks to be heading to Fulham, it just shows what a huge draw the Premiership is, I think they have got themselves a very good manager there and if he is backed financially he may do well for them.

Roll on the weekend when we have the German Grand Prix to get stuck into.

Barney is The Man

My adventures with Financial Spread Betting are still a work in progress, making a lot of mistakes but I am determined to crack it.

Anyway I was sitting there watching QI when I suddenly remembered a horse alert that I had received via GG.com.

The legendary Barney Curly had one running in the 9:00 @ Newmarket.

Quickly fired up the e machine and logged into Betfair, Aviso was trading at around 50-55 for a win and 8-9 for a place, he had taken a huge walk in the market so looked like a looser, but hold on this is Barney Curly horse running in a 15 runner 1 mile handicap, could there be a plot?

Well I decided that there was and duly backed him to win @ SP and also place @ SP, the rest is history as they say, winning by a Hd returning @ 56 and 10.5 respectively... happy days.

Tough Going

A quiet but unfortunately loosing day for me.

The Arm Holdings Spread was stopped out for a loss, I think this financial spread betting is going to be frustrating for a while, I have dabbled in Forex today with a Buy of the GPP/USD Spot price and you guessed it, stopped out after about 1 hour for a loss, however I am only learning the ropes at the moment so I am not too concerned.

All I need to do is find the all important EDGE and I will be sorted.

I will be putting together my Trading Plan over the next few days as it appears that you have to have one of these to have any chance of success.

Sporting wise I had a place bet on a horse in the 2:30 @ Carmel which failed to make the frame, so another looser to add to the very long list of loosing bets this month.

A quiet weekend ahead as I cannot see any potential bets at the moment.

Have a good one and unless I find a Golden Goose to talk about I will be back on Monday.

Thursday 15 July 2010

No Action

Well I am starting to get withdrawal symptoms now, no sports bets on the horizon unless I can find a horse or 2 later on.

The BP Spread didn't work out as I managed to buy @ 404 but had a stop set @ 397 and was stopped out at lunchtime for a loss, the market has started on a downward trend again today and I am sitting on a buy of Arm Holdings but my screen is a sea of RED at the moment so fingers crossed that they get moving in the other direction.

Wednesday 14 July 2010

Another Quiet Day

Well 2 days in a row with no sports betting activity!

I have been playing around with my new IG Index account and managed to make a few pennies on a Buy of BP early doors yesterday, riding the wave up all day and cashing in before the close.

I am trying to do the same today and I am waiting for a Buy order to be triggered in the hope that it will be bouncing back up after the early fall today.

Its amazing how quiet the Blogs have gone now that the World Cup has ended, still some quality out there though.

Tuesday 13 July 2010

Quiet Monday

No action for me yesterday apart from funding my IG Index account so I am now entering into the world of Financial Spread Betting, well I have been Sports Spread Betting for a while now and have been dabbling with the financial markets through my Spread Ex account but the IG platform looks very impressive and we will be giving it a work out over the coming weeks.

Monday 12 July 2010

OMG a Profit

At last we have a decent day.

The Lay of Sebastian Vettel to win the British Grand Prix was in the bag after the 1st corner, he fluffed his lines badly.
He went on to finish 7th but to be honest that flattered him as the safety car helped him out no end, prior to the safety car coming out he had thrown in the towel, he received a kick up the behind over the team radio and it appeared to wake him up.
I have said it before and will say it again, he is not yet the real deal and whilst I think he has the potential to be a champion he ain't there yet.
If I was team principle at Red Bull I would be backing Webber for the title, he is a good all rounder and has the experience to take him through, however it looks as though they have gone for the young German instead which may come back to haunt them.

I thought my Button to podium bet was also going to come in but he just couldn't get at Rossberg (not enough fuel so he had to back off).

Hamilton looked solid enough in 2nd place but never really looked like troubling Webber but overall a decent enough race and a winning bet!

The other profitable bet was in the World Cup Final where I managed to get the correct score and a Spain to win in extra time bet up:

Here is the prediction that I put on the tipster competition on my favourite forum:

Holland v Spain : Draw #0-0 Win @ 8.03

Well it is here, the final to be played out between 2 sides that have never won it before so we will have new World Champions tonight.

A lot of talk about Spain winning this and you could see them nicking it 1-0

The way they have played has been discussed at length on the forum, i think they have done what they need to do in every game and they will probably do the same again tonight, but it may take them longer than the regulation 90 minutes

I am going for a 0-0 draw in normal time and then expect Spain to get the single goal in extra time to win 1-0

The odds for a Spain win are a bit on the low side and to be honest the value has to be with a Holland win @ 4!

The original can be seen here if you don't believe me.

So all in all a decent day and boy oh boy was I due one.

Sunday 11 July 2010

No Joy

The month from hell continues:

British Grand Prix:

Qual/Winner Double - Lewis Hamilton - Lost
Qualifier Winner - Lewis Hamilton - Lost
Podium finish - Jenson Button - He needs a miracle from where he is on the grid
Winner - Lewis Hamilton - Another miracle required

The McLarens were just not at the party yesterday, the promised upgrades didn't produce and it looks like a Red Bull afternoon to me, the only possible bit of fun we may see is Lewis taking on the miserable Spanish git... come on Lewis!

I had a dabble on the horses with a looser in the 4:40 @ Ascot and I also backed Uruguay to win.. another looser

Eh this is betting as it really is guys and girls

Onwards and upwards as they say

World Cup final tonight and I will probably get involved at some point I have not decided yet which way I am going to loose my money.

A blogger that I have recently started to follow Spread Betting Beginner (financial spread betting) raises an interesting point HERE about betting against your self.

Food for thought for me the way my bets have been going.

Enjoy your Sunday all.

Friday 9 July 2010

Level

Well no bets yesterday means we loose no money and end the day Level

I have already placed a couple of bets on the British Grand Prix this weekend:

Qual/Winner Double - Lewis Hamilton @ 7.8
Winner - Lewis Hamilton @ 4.1
Podium Finish - Jenson Button @ 2.62

I am also looking at Laying Michael Schumacher for a points finish @ 1.6 or below but have not gone with this yet

As you can see from these bets I am a huge McLaren fan and I do think we have a good chance of a 1-2 this weekend, I have just watched practice 1 and Lewis looks to be in the Zone as they say, come on Lewis............... and Jenson.

Have a good weekend all, I will pop back tomorrow to update if anything exciting happens.

Thursday 8 July 2010

Is it Just Me?

Well the World cup is almost over and I have to say... thank God, I have had a month from hell and cannot believe how bad my betting has been.

The draw failed to materialise last night and the final nail in the coffin was Spain winning to end my outright winner market bet on Germany

So the month has not been great so far with only 2 winning bets from 21

As the saying goes, things can only get better but as the title of my blog is "Betting as it really is" I will not hide the truth and will continue to report things as they really happen, no doctored P&L screen shots from me.

Will have a bit of a breaqk now unless anything jumps out at me, I will not be having any further bets on the World Cup as it has not been kind to me and I have no reason to suspect that it is likley to be kind to me in the final.

Hope Holland win it as IMHO Spain have been very poor (tactiaclly good) and woeful to watch.

Wednesday 7 July 2010

Almost a Profitable Day

Well we almost had a profitable day but not quite.

The System horse selection pulled up so that was a looser but prior to that I managed to back the winner of the 5:15 @ Wolverhampton, I then re invested some of the winning on a back to lay trade of the 0-0 score in the Uruguay v Holland game and was looking good up to 18 mins when Van Bronkhorst scored his stunner....... doh

My bet for the draw also went up in flames despite a couple of frantic minutes at the end of the game, so all in all another loosing day.

Tonight we have a potential thriller when Germany take on Spain, I am on the draw again and will be hoping that Germany go through to keep my outright winner bet alive and kicking.. come on Germany!!

Tuesday 6 July 2010

Not So Encouraging Signs

Well I knew it was far too good to be true, the encouraging signs of my paper trial have disappeared and it now looks like a bit of a dog, anyway we will keep going for a few more days before we make a decision.

Only managed to loose 1 bet yesterday but as it was the only bet I had it wasn't good, another 2nd placed horse in the 7:40 @ Windsor

The good news is that we have a system bet for today, well tonight really

Uttoxeter 7:20 Bond Cruz to place

I am backing the draw in the Uruguay v Holland game and @ around 3.6 this looks value, I shall be doing the same tomorrow night in the Spain Germany game so we only need 1 of these to come in to show a profit (but this is me betting so laying the draw in either games is probably the way to go LOL)

Monday 5 July 2010

Encouraging Signs

I mentioned last week that I was paper trialing a new laying system for horses and early signs are very encouraging, I will of course be giving it more time before I start to put down any hard earned.

Yesterday was a quiet day on the betting front but I did have a nibble on a horse at Market Rasen which was unfortunately a complete and utter donkey.

Today looks like another quiet day for me, I shall be umming and arring about the 1st World Cup Semi Final tomorrow night and will be getting involved one way or the other.

Enjoy the rest of the day all.

Sunday 4 July 2010

Balance

Well yesterday could have been a good day but in the end it fizzed out into another bad one.

The spread bets Balanced each other out with a slight profit as Messi failed to score so the sell came in but Tevez also failed to score so the Buy flopped.

I had already backed Argentina to win the game and even dipped in just before KO backing the draw, thinking that I had it covered as I could not see Germany winning and if they did no probs as I have them on the outright market at 16's.

Well I now need them to win it to recoup some of the losses that I have made during the tournament, I could GREEN UP now but I have decided to let it run as I really do think they are going to win it.

I will play around with the semi final matches to cover my original stake though.

Never thought I would be cheering for Germany!

I backed the draw in the Paraguay v Spain game and thought I was going to be onto a winner when Spain got lucky and snatched a win, how the market now has them as favourites is beyond me?

Anyway all in all a poor day and a poor month so far but if Germany win the World Cup the month could turn around very quickly.

I am currently paper trading a new idea for laying horses and will be looking to expand on that over the next few weeks, it is nothing radical and I am sure nothing that has not already been done before but you have to keep looking at these things don't you.

I will be happy and sas when the World Cup is over, I will miss the games but my betting bank will not miss having the you know what kicked out of it every day.

As a fellow poster on my favourite forum says "football betting is the wicked mistress"

Have a good sunday all, no bets for me today, but i have said that before.....

Saturday 3 July 2010

The Spread Is On

Well I have opted for a couple of Spread Bets on this afternoons game between Argentina and Germany

A Buy of Carlos Tevez Goal mins @ 17 as I think he is now in the groove and will be looking to add to the brace he scored against Mexico
A Sell of L Messi Goal Minutes @ 21 as I think he will be marked out of the game by the Germans and his quest for World Cup goals is set to continue

Grim Friday

Just a quick update from yesterday.

Well it didn't go too well, I will always be honest with my results and I ended up having a few more bets yesterday than originally planned.

I had a horse turned over in the 1st @ Sandown beaten in a photo finish

Neither Holland or Brazil won on penalties.

I had a buy of Robben goal minutes which was also a failure.

I did manage to back R Nadal to beat Andy Murray and then lost all of that profit with a bet on HT Draw/FT Uruguay so we end the day very much down.

I have included Argentina in my outright win market so I now have both Germany and Argentina so one will be ousted today.

I have gone with Argentina to win today backed earlier in the week @ 2.37 with Canbet.

As they say "things can only get better" and I shall seek motivation from some of the many successful bloggers out there... you know who you are guys.

Mudflaps AKA Betting for a Living had a fantastic day yesterday, well done that man.

Friday 2 July 2010

Dutching The Dutch

I am going with a dutch of the Holland v Brazil game going to penalties and either side can be backed around the 13 mark giving a dutch return of approx 5-1

Cassini highlighted this bet for the last round of matches and it hit a winner in the Paraguay v Japan game

I have not decide if I will get involved in the Uruguay v Ghana game but if I do it will probably be a straight back of Uruguay

Not a lot else happening today, I am looking forward to the Argentina v Germany game tomorrow and I backed Argentina at 2.37 earlier in the week (i have Germany in the outright market @ 16;s backed pre tournament)

Thursday 1 July 2010

The Ship Comes In

Well a bit of a result yesterday with my system bet, Three Ships was 2nd and the place odds on Betfair (taken @ sp) were 4.38................ nice

I will try and put up system qualifiers as they come up, I don't tend to back them all as I do tend to form read the race to ensure that we have a chance of a return

I have had a little 4 fold on the World Cup quarter final games

Netherlands v Brazil (Backing Netherlands @ 4.37)
Uruguay v Ghana (Backing Uruguay @ 2.09)
Argentina v Germany (Backing Argentina @ 2.34)
Paraguay v Spain (Backing The Draw @ 4)

4 fold pays at generous odds of 86.38

No bets today for me, back in the morning

On The Button

I have taken a Spread Bet on Jenson Button to win the Drivers Championship with Sporting Index
I have a Buy @ 29 which I think is a decent bet when you consider that he is currently sitting 2nd in the Championship with half the season to go.

Current points are Lewis Hamilton on 127, Jenson button on 121 points and Sebastian Vettel on 115 points

He is a canny driver and looks set to continue to gain points (major upgrades to come @ Silverstone)

The Spread pays as follows:
Winner = 60pts,
Runner-up = 40pts,
Third = 30pts,
Fourth = 20pts,
Fifth = 10pts,
Sixth = 5pts.

This is added to my portfolio of Spread Bets on the F1 taken out before the season started

Jenson Butoon Number of race wins Buy @ 0.9
Lewis Hamilton Number of race wins Buy @ 2.7

Both are looking good at the moment
